Ginger Sparklers (Ginger snaps)

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • granulated sugar

 

  1. Mix flour, baking soda, salt, and spices in a medium mixing bowl. Stir well to blend.
  2. Cream brown sugar, butter, molasses, and egg together thoroughly.
  3. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Mix well.
  4. Shape dough into 1" balls. Roll in granulated sugar and place 2" apart on greased baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 176°C (350°F) for 7-9 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from pan.
Makes 3-4 dozen cookies.
