  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1.5 lbs. ground beef
  • 6 cups water
  • 6 beef bouillon cubes
  • 2 cups spaghetti sauce
  • 2 cups cabbage, chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, diced
  • 1 cup zucchini, sliced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 414 ml can of kidney beans, with juice
  • 1/2 cup vermicelli (broken into small pieces), or other small pasta, or pot barley

 

  1. Saute the bacon, onion, and ground beef until the meat is browned.
  2. Add the water and bouillon cubes, and bring it to a boil.
  3. Add the spaghetti sauce, cabbage, celery, carrot, zucchini, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Add the kidney beans and pasta and boil for 10 minutes.

Makes 12 cups.

Freezes well.
